Pleasant summer days of yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Walking along the sandy beach,
licking an ice cream cone,
I admired the signs of summer
where the hot sun shone.

Children building sandcastles
as their parents lay nearby
under colourful beach umbrellas
shaded from the brilliant sky.

Others splashed in the water,
beach towels were strewn on the sand
along with sandals and sunglasses;
couples walked hand in hand.

I remember summers long past
of car trips with Dad and Mom
to places with ferris wheels,
cotton candy and parades with drums.

As I wander by the waves crashing
outdoor concerts bring music to the air
I hide behind dark sunglasses
longing for someone with a life to share.

I dream of picnics with watermelon,
lemonade, daiquiris or iced tea,
fried chicken and peaches,
Strawberries, a lover and me.
