Ode to a grand old black walnut tree…

You stand in silent majesty
Your strength for all to see
You’ve stood there for over
A hundred years you grand
black walnut tree!
Your branches shield me
From the heat of the sun
I laugh and play in your shade
But now the Red Cross will
Have you cut down
A deal with a mill company made.
Never again will I admire your beauty
Money is more important they say
But I disagree and shall miss you
My heart is heavy on this day.

Cut down a tree! A tree? I’d go insane if that was my Lady Pine! (That’s what I call the pine tree in my back yard :) ) All of my tree climbing poems is about her especially Purposefully Poetic. I’m glad you like the excerpts and I’ll try to continue them! Mostly they just pop in and out of my head and I have to catch them in time to write them down! Have you read Death in the Barren Lands? It’s another excerpt.
