I cannot sleep, so instead I write.

Tossing and turning

I lay in my bed

Visions of sugarplums

Don’t dance in my head

I can’t fall asleep

My brain it won’t stop

It goes on and on

Like the tick of a clock

So many thoughts

Of things to do

Things to write

To people like you

Wishing I could sleep

I give up for now

To my dogs’ dismay

Poor little bow-wow

So instead I just write

Of nothing important

Though I should say good-night

But sleep it is absent

So more I will write

Til there’s nothing left

Then I’ll call it a night

Til my eyes close with heft

I work better when sleep disappears even though I know how agonizing it can be to some people.

I too write when things are not going the way that would like. I like your work!

I also write better at night. I do everything better at night as I am a night owl as well.

    Thank you Audrey!
