This poem was inspired by a random stranger I met…so this is for them..but not about them, haha.
Just another night,
Just another light.
Why am I always awake?
With my ears trained for noise,
Even the slightest of whispers can’t escape me.
Why does it seem I’m always awake,
When the sun is high in the sky, or hidden by
pale moonlight?
Why am I waiting for you?
My curtains are pulled back,
My window open so a soft breeze can sway the hair around my face.
It’s just another night,
The moon shines bright,
with pale white light.
The crickets are signalling,
With their nighttime symphonies.
How long will I wait tonight?
To press my palm to yours through cool glass windows,
To open at last the final lock guarding that which you haven’t met.
Why can’t I stop feeling those most gentle of lips touching to mine?
Sunlight floods from your embrace, yet the moon still shines.
The warmth is a thousand days of laying by earthen hearths,
Or rich hot cocoa during the heavy snows.
How long until my head can rest with weariness on your chest,
All the harsh seasons of fighting cut into my memory.
When will we finally be able to rest beyond our sleepless nights?
The sun peaks over the backdrop of mountains outside my window.
Why must your shadow shrink and leave me to the light
Or the warmth of your arms leave me cold in pressed sheets?
Because its just another night,
Sleepless in fright,
That you will not arrive
To find my open window.
