The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was to convince the world he does not exist. Sometimes we are deliberately misled by others to believe they are our friends when secretly they intend to do us harm.

Smoke and mirrors and colored lights

Overload the senses in an overwhelming display

Rapidity of movement, distraction

What appears to be is not

Friendship, loyalty, love

A flash in the pan

The floor drops from beneath my feet

Dangling from what I thought

Were the ties that bind

But are the finest of threads

The magician’s prop

Used to hold in place the curtain

Thinly veiled jealousy and contempt

The truth too late revealed

    when someone sliced me

    two of them

    i used this word sleight

they did not know the meaning

and they said the word doesn’t exist
    twas their desire to ignore

I laughed at this from your summary but you are right. Frenemies are nowadays more than friends and enemies combined.

  • Melinda J on Oct 6, 2010

Your opening statement is right on. A truthful poem too.

  • LOVELYHONEY on Oct 20, 2010

    what of sleight you say

    i face it every day

    perhaps some day

    they themselves will become

    victims of sleight

    one day
    they may!
