A poem about losing a friend.
I wish I could capture those moments
Those memories of when we were together
Those nights spent touching your soul
With my own fractured spirit
And keep them in jars like fireflies
To brighten the dark days, dismal days
To be a nightlight against my monsters
Those beasts hiding in the abyss
With lacerating words for teeth
That tell me I’m a fool for trusting you
Ripping and tearing at the vulnerable heart
Where your love was once a shield
But is gone now
Released…
No. Broken.
The lid intact but the jar shattered
And the fireflies escape into the sky
Mingling with the stars
That children wish upon
And now I make a wish
With all my heart
Hands folded, eyes closed
I wish…
