(Pete) “Doreen has dragged me along Bill.”

(Bill)“A nice day but it’s tiring on the feet.”

(Pete) “Just shows we are over the hill.”

(Bill)  “While the women powder their noses

              Let’s go and have a sneaky Drink.”

(Pete) “OK Mavis, I’m taking Bill to see the roses”

(Mavis) “Oh Doreen they’re up to no good I think.”

Bill and Pete queue for the gallon of ale

sweaty arm-pits give out an odour

in the hot beer tent where the air is stale

they queue for nearly half an hour

(Bill) “We better Drink up Pete or our lives will be hell”

(Pete) “Yes Bill where was it we were to meet our wives?”

(Bill) “I think it was the tent that said the Bluebell”

(Pete) “I thought it was heaven and the garden of olives”

Oh! Oh! here we go go again two souls lost

When approached by two big Bushes walking

they are stunned by the amount they cost

because they find it is their wives talking.

(Bill) “Spending our money again Mavis my sweet”

(Mavis) “We wondered where you got to, the roses you said.”

(Bill) “Yes but that isn’t a rose bush by your feet”

(Mavis) “Its a Pyracantha with white and later berries so red”

(Pete) “And what have you got my lovely Japonica”

(Doreen) ”You’ve had too many, we had better find a chair?”

(Pete) “We only had the two and one was a chaser.”

(Doreen) “But you called this a japonica when it is a pear.”

So the couples walked out at the end of the show

Doreen and Mavis in front chatting and moaning

with Bill and Pete walking behind ever so slow

carrying the purchases with their old bodies groaning

“That will teach the men to leave us Doreen

they hate carrying the shopping all afternoon”

“Yes Mavis they will know that they have been,

until next year they won’t forget this so soon”
