“Are you ready yet Pete?” Bill asked impatiently.

“He’ll be ready in a minute Biil.” Doreen said.

“Yes I’ll be with you in a minute” Pete added contently,

For he overslept and just got out of bed.

“We had better get a move on or the shop will close,”

“OK! OK! Don’t panic Bill, just one shoe to put on.”

“We will have time for a pint at the Crown I suppose.”

“Of course we will Bill,  cheerio Doreen See you anon.”

*************

“She’s a good one Pete, your Doreen,”

“Yes I always loved her and no other one.”

“What about Lil from across the Green?”

“That was years ago in the hot summer’s sun.”

*************

“Yes but that was admiring another was it not?”

“That was different Doreen and I weren’t wed.”

“But Pete that was the same, and means a lot.”

“OK Bill, what about the ones you had in your bed?”

*************

“Ah, but I didn’t say I had been faithfull all these years,

I liked lying in the long grass with some lass by my side.”

“Well If  Mavis Could hear you she’d have burning ears.”

“Pete, I must tell the grass is greener on the other side.”

*************

“Shall we go and have a pint Bill?”

“Why not Pete, Mavis has gone out.”

” I saw her at the bus stop with Jill.”

“Oh here’s Doreen with Lil, watch out!”
