Mount Everest

SO MANY MOUNTAINS

So many mountains to climb

The mountains of life beckoning

To me that I must climb

One step at a time

      – - – - – -

Each one brings it’s own challenges

Each one will test me to the core

Each one climbed

Will add to the score

      – - – - –

That little hill of my childhood

Looked oh so huge to me

As I took the steps to climb it

With a fall of two or three

      – - – - – -

I picked myself up

And suddenly saw the

Mountain of my youth

Right there before me

It looked so much bigger

Than the hill I left behind

      – - – - – -

I took that next step

And started to climb

Exploring all it’s wonders

As I took the task to mind

      – - – - – -

With tumbles and scrapes and bruises galore

Hanging on for dear life

So as not to slip once more

With hand over foot and one last step

I finally made it to the top

      – - – - – -

Resting a while in the valley below

I wondered what else life could bestow

Then all at once I saw

That mountain called  Marriage

Staring at me with a welcoming glow

      – - – - – -

Climbing again and with a few steps more

I came upon

The Mountain of Motherhood

With five little peaks in tow

      – - – - – -

Those five little peaks

Have all stretched and grown

Each now with it’s own Mountain of Life

Calling to be known

      – - – - – -

And now I have but one more to climb

The Everest of my life

Calling to me

In the twilight of space and time

      – - – - – -

Slowing down I’ll rest a while

Gathering strength for that mighty climb

When I reach that golden summit

I’ll survey the many mountains

I have left far, far behind

      – - – - – -

As I say my last farewell

I will know that with a mountain of faith

I have climbed and conquered them all

One step and one day at a time.
