Don’t give up writing because your conscience is telling you to.
I am a soldier drafted into war,
My weapon does not have a blade nor is it filled with bullets,
It is just a pen and its ammo is the ink held within it,
A piece of paper is what I call my shield,
It is my barrier that I take cover in,
The war I’m fighting is not over oil nor land,
It is over words that my enemy wants to keep unsaid,
My enemy is my own conscience,
Its mission is to destroy my shield and force me to surrender my weapon,
Now I am a soldier of words,
Of words that my enemy has locked away in my mind’s prison,
My mission is to release them,
And to make sure that they don’t go on unwritte, unspoken,
I am a soldier drafted into the war of words kept unsaid,
And I refuse to surrender my only weapon.
