The drive home after ending a six month relationship. The day started out with the sun shining and fair weather, but upon leaving saying our goodbyes it began to rain.

Twenty-four miles
Left to go and I’ll be home
Driving down the road
With the unknown
Catching up to me
Half an hour drive
Through the cities
In-between
Rain falls from a black cloud
And somehow
I’m still moving
Toward the exit
On the right
Of the freeway
These orange construction barrels
Have opened up my eyes
To see
That
Some relationships, just like concrete
Can’t make it through the elements
Or time
The roadwork had begun
We realized
We
Were
Done
