‘Somebody’s Listening’

They sat in the studio, with microphones in hand,

Talking about a female linesman, a decision hard to understand.

Sure they were off screen, but they weren’t turned down,

Making comments of the wrong kind, a storm had erupted and they didn’t know how?

Off the cuff remarks, were given a media spotlight,

On the first day, they were fighting for their jobs all right.

New evidence would emerge, this sort of thing had happened before,

Sure they might be old school, but that didn’t stop them from being shown the door.

Sackings and resignations, ended their sporting reigns,

The football programs, from this moment would see a change.

The world moves on, and we will be left of memories,

Of the bizarre moment, that counted for Gray and Keys.

Somebody’s listening?  In fact it was the sporting public,

A few comments about an official, made people feel sick.

Somebody’s listening? Pretty soon everyone else was too,

The media ran with the story, and didn’t stop until they were through.

Somebody’s listening? The comments claimed were off air,

But that didn’t stop the feeling! They had both been critical and unfair.
