A wife encourages a despondent husband that is a chimney sweep not to be so blue. Instead, he should change his overalls, take a shower, put on some music, and dance with her.
“Soot and grime,” they say
After all you’re as black as coal
Covered in dust
You don’t take care of yourself
- – -
You’re a chimney sweep
You spend long hours with muck
“Yes,” you’re grimy
But as a wife, “I love you”
- – -
It’s what you do
To make an honest living
You say someone
Has to do it
And it’s you
- – -
That’s how you have
Taken care of us
Getting up early
At the break of dawn
Throughout the years
I must thank you
- – -
But do you have to flop
Yourself down in your filthy clothes
Fall asleep in your rocking chair
After drinking a pack of beer
Night after night
Without saying a word
- – -
I know you dislike
What you do
But can you at least
Be not so dirty and filthy
Is that too much to ask?
- – -
Change into better clothes
Take a shower

Put on some music
And let us do our favorite dance
I know it’ll perk you up
