Why does the mourning dove cry?

Petals raining down
Drenched in the color of blood
True love lies bleeding

A mourning dove weeps
Weeping for the love she lost
Mourning for her mate

Weeping evermore
Her wings playing a sad song
Sorrow’s aria

Forever she weeps
Crying for her companion
Perpetual rain

Death took him from her
Left alone to raise her young
A lover’s lament

I’ve always thought that animals were not that much differant from us; or maybe I should say that we are not that much different from them since they were here before us.
