This is about empowerment, a sense of identity, and strength in the realization of those two things.
I am the story of someone buried underground…
I am the answer to the riddle, “Who fell down?”
I am the threshold beneath the open door,
And I am the cure.
So open the windows, and watch as the shadows disappear!
Break your formations, Speak to the nations, and they will hear:
I am a sparrow, I am an arrow, I am a song-
I am a sinner, I am Virginia, and I am strong.
There was a lady in pretty ribbons, with pins in her hair;
She had a meltdown, let her braids out, and stopped being scared.
So pick up your pencils, and write out the answer,
‘Cause I will not stand down, I will not surrender-
They thought when they pushed me I’d fall from the tower,
But I can just fly away, ’cause I have the power,
‘Cause I am a sparrow, I am an arrow, I am a song-
I am a sinner, I am Virginia, and I am strong.
