A poem inspired by a spider crawling up the wall behind my computer.

.

I’m not afraid of spiders

Or wonder if they’re there

When sitting down outside

I don’t look ‘neath the chair

.

I’m not one to check the eaves

When walking out the door

If I spot a cobweb hanging

I don’t want to explore

If a spider comes inside

It doesn’t bother me one bit

You won’t see me taking off

Like a banshee in a screaming fit

A spider gets frightened

When it sees me coming near

There’s no need for me to recoil

With apprehension and fear

So now my spider affirmation

Has been repeated for the day

I’ll just check that dark corner

With my can of spider spray.

That’s funny, Janette, having just read about your spider adventure. I think I shall have to try an acclamation against my moth phobia. I love the poem.

Loved this Janette. As long as they don’t move too quickly I can cope with spiders.

Spiders don’t scare me either. I love watching them spin their webs, especially the writing spider.

Writers like us can create a piece of art like this from unexpected events in our lives. But this spider story that inspired you to come up with this poem just amazed me. Nice work!

Nice one Jan, we don’t have killer spiders, so even the big hairy ones can crawl in my den, catching any fly’s that might wander in… I used to keep a few spiders for my grandsons, to see when they were smaller, we used to keep them in a big green glass, kind of bowl pot thing… it was fun until the kids broke the bowl… then it was all hands on nets, and the eviction of the spiders came cheers liked this one Jan

    Amusing spiders…or story.

  • Brenda Nelson on Jan 5, 2012

I just scoop them up and set them free outside – they want to live just as much as we do – maybe more since their lives are shorter anyhow…

I don\’t worry about spiders, but I don\’t live in Australia. You guys have some pretty nasty ones down there, don\’t you?

  • Tulan on Jan 7, 2012

I don\\\’t have any worry about spiders, they have their place in the world just as humans do.

Very amusing. This poem is being posted all over the web.
