Spirits Upstairs

14 Oct 2011

The true sadness of this sorrow
People do not love like this anymore
In the house next door
A child weeps for parents of no more

But I am so afraid to look that way
I can see their spirits dancing upstairs
The lost child is unawares
Weeping below and dancing upstairs

Two brothers loved the same lady
Torn apart when she chose just one
Late after the wedding was done
The bride was raped by scorned brothers gun

Love kept them together
Raising this child as their own
Scorned brother in prison gone
Peace was all their own

But terror returned on stormy night
The child screamed out a deep fright
The parent came into a stressed fight
There they died that dreadful night

That was many years ago
The child is grown and gone
That house sits all alone
Yet upstairs are spirits dancing on

It is amazing what secrets houses can hold. You have captured the atmosphere very well.
