Descriptive wildlife poem about a deer, watchful, as dawn breaks around him.

Silhouetted silver,

In the still-moonlit dawn,

The stag stands watchful,

A statue in the clearing.

Quivering iron.

He blows,

Breaking the pre-dawn silence.

Twin plumes of mist,

Dance and dissipate

Around his heavy crown.

Barely discernible,

The first streaks of color

Break through the dark.

The forest beckons,

And he is gone.
