A poem written from the banks of the Ohio River.

Bodies of water draw me like the proverbial moth to the burning flame
The stench of the Ohio River drove me away
A smell so rancid; water so filthy, words cannot describe
Refuse riding the wakes, feeding the fowl
The National Anthem playing afar seemed fitting, as this is the land of the free
Free to trash our one Earth in anyway we deem fit.
Ducks quack, oblivious; cutting through the muck, feeding and bathing
I followed the shore, hopeful, but found only more
A gut churning smell mixed in with the heart wrenching sight
Who turned our piece of heaven into this landfill hell?
We, the people.
