Poem about the writing life.

There are times, you must all get them, when the writer inside strarts calling out

please stop churning out this garbage, time to show the world what your writing is all about’

Go visit those worlds that you conjure so well, bring those chracters once more to life

talk about the adventures they undergo, the troubles they face, and the strife

which makes them so real and so interesting, gets the reader beggibg for more

will the story turn out as they started to think, or is a tiwst coming, who can be sure

of any outcome in fiction you write, for aim to keep readers asking what mext

that is the beauty of sitting right down to compose all that glorious creative text

and yet this may not be the right place to share it, the readers on this site too few

as well as too fickle, not really a broad brush of potential fans for the wonders that you

so passionately pen with such aplomb, receiving real fountains of approval and praise

yet still, on this site it’s a wasted effort because the viewership you just cannot raise

What I hear you ask can be the solution, where must my writing net then be cast?

No simple answer forthcoming I fear, even sites that seem well attended and vast

cannot guarantee that your tales will be read, be they really well written and grand

you are at the mercy of web surfing fate, and an audience  that has never once planned

To stop at good writing, unless it’s a name that they have seen before, read and enjoyed

You have get known, then your stufff gets attention and by that you ought to be bouyed

Yet you must not fool yourself, thinking that once you have reached those hieghts you’re OK

the viewing public have tastes so discerning they’ll run hot and cold, so there’s no way

that uyou as a writer can kewep on their good side with every piece that you compose

keep pluggung away, and as you get better  known, you hope your popularity grows

to the point where whatever you bother to pen, somebody will just have to look

that is the ponit when what you really need do is to write a damn good book

Though not even that will be sure to succeed, unless you push it in peoples faces enough

that they actually buy a copy, then tell others that your fiction really is good stuff

Problem is that you need lots of readers to buy the thing and then raise their voices

Loud enough that others take notice and buy it themselves, or you’re left with stark choices

Do I carry on deluding myself that the effort is worth all the frustration and emotional pain

or do I say the hell with the writing life, and start something new all over again?

Yes, Tony. Do I keep at it or say to hell with it? Remember this, though: John Grisham could not sell his first book, “A Time to Kill.” They printed 5,000 copies and he bought 1500 of them. His second book hit, and the first one sold as well. I cannot spend the time I would like on writing, because unsold stuff does not pay the mortgage.

Tony, keep your face to the sun to avoid the shadows.

I donĀ“t have enough fingers upon my hands to count the times I have shucked it all as a writer. Many times, for years at a time. At sometimes the luck runs like diarrhea, at others, like the works get read at a constipated pace. After doing it off and on for over 25 years, I have learned one that giving up is not the answer, for it has little to do with “my” talent, but has a lot to do with how well people know you. Flood the gates Tony, get the waters (your works) to the readers and you’ll be surprised to find it’s within how much and how often we “annoy” the public with “ourselves” that gets books and our works “sold.”

Don’t get demoralized. Keep the spirit up. Don’t consider those who don’t respect your art.

One thing is clear for me -I write online for fun and to showcase my writings, but since the very beginning I knew that Triond.com or whatever other was not going to pay for my bills and everyday expenses. What a naivety! I’m not ready to write on hot content so I’ll have loads of views and silly comments telling me “Good share”, “Good info” and the like. I write on what I like writing about whether there’s readership or not. I aim for quality rather than quantity. I love your writing, so keep it up and don’t get obssesed with views and comments if you still have an income to buy for milk, tea, bread and the like. Thanks for sahring.
