A.N.Trani.

She stood in front of the mirror
It was dawn but not quite light yet
Her skin was a soft shade of blue in the
Sweetened shadows of ending night.
With a soft flutter of wings,
She adjusts her bra strap and struggles
To keep herself together.
‘I don’t know myself anymore.’ She
Whispers to her reflection
Carefully avoiding the bed – Her gaze
Ending on her waist
‘I hate this.’
She had to stop thinking
A silent cry choked her throat
Hands falling to encircle her hips
She shudders
-His kisses, like bruises, pressed against her throat
She wanted to scream
Heart pounding and sickness creeping
into her head.
Her hand rises to her lips
Crying before she realises why
She touched her thigh
Almost wishing she had scars
Something to justify the collapsing hole
God only knew what she would do next
Silence filled the room
Except for the melodic chirping of
Birds and crickets
She was almost numb
But not numb enough to stop feeling
Breath, cascading in and out
Chest rising and falling
-Like his hips-
She couldn’t think
Remain standing
‘Hold your breath’
While he softly stirs.
