A.N.Trani.

You were crowned in sparkling glory
Water dripping down your chest
-hanging from your eyelids like diamonds
Promises hung in the air
Thick, heavy, and hot
-like steam-
and the weight I had been carrying for
so long
dropped
and I was willing to forget
willing to let go
But you weren’t.
And the water evaporated
-like steam-
and you became -Adam-
Both of us bitten from the fruit.
We kissed goodbye
-Our mouths still sweetened from the flesh-
For you to say “I’m Sorry” in that hollow way
And I, like Lilith, watched
As you suffered for Eve.
