A poem about seashells, which represent dreams. Inspired by my walk on the boardwalk a few months ago.
Crushed seashells
You were once a dream
Lying on the sand
A broken dream
Small broken pieces
Here’s a piece of my heart
A dream gone wrong
A dream stepped on
Seashell pieces
Lying on the sand
Remnants of dreams gone wrong
Lifeless dreams
Dreams deferred
Smashed and beaten to the ground
Picking up pieces of dreams on the sand
A bit of a broken dream here,
A piece of a dead dream there
What are dreams?
Are they tangible, that they can be stepped on?
Are they fragile, that they can be broken?
Pieces of shattered dreams lining the sand
Dreams lost in the ocean
Tossed and battered by insensitive waves
Dreams left to die here
Rotting in the sun
Posing as broken seashells.
