About our disabled son and how to cope.

Stevie was born with cri du chat syndrome, the tip of chromosome 5.This makes him mentally and physically disabled. This is and always will be difficult, but you can get though this and still have a “proper” life.
Be positive, think of all the good things in your child , not the actual syndrome.
Believe that this child will do everything any other child does.
But, take one day at a time.
You might have other children think of them, they need your attention too.
You have a husband or partner, bring him into the situation. Its important to have all the family involved.
Never cope on your own.
Support groups are out there, doctors need to know your situation, so they can monitor what is happening. Find out information on your behalf.
Make time for yourself, writhe all your problems down. Its much easier than bottling everything up inside. There is help at hand.
My next article will be about the help that is out there, and how you go about it.
