Often our circumstances weigh on our spirits. It is hard to create when we are dealing with the issues of others who seek to hinder us. Sometimes it seems as though our very air supply has been cut off.

Stifled, cut off from the world

Imprisoned by your insecurity

No longer free to express and create

Suffocated by your mistrust

I cannot breathe

Much less write

Overwhelmed by your self-serving

Demands on my time and attention

So afraid that I will shine

Overshadow your meager success

You’ve tethered my mind

With an unbreakable cord

My thoughts are not my own

But those forced upon me

My spirit asphyxiated

Your foot firmly on my neck

This poem is very expressive. Yes, the demands of others can be a problem, but we must learn how to be firm and ensure no one infringes on the time we set aside for ourselves to be productive.

Hey there, missed your poems,Ashan!Like this one as well,it has a deep message and its well observed. The demands can sometimes be too much to handle, especially when they make us think by the head of others, and not of our own.

“No longer free to express and create”. Oh I don’t know, I think you’re doing a pretty good job.
