The conclusion of the Stone City Street Saga; Three-Toed Pete’s Greed keeps him in "The Game" until THE END…

Stone City Crossout: A Street Saga… Pt. III: Conclusion; The Getaway

“Well, said the ‘Country Boy’,  Ya’ll both seems O.K. to me.” Extending his hand, Pete said, “call me Three-Toe.” Then Sty shook his partner Cardboard’s hand and said, “You can just call me ‘Brother Lee’…”

Cardboard, the “Country Boy” turned to Styrofoam Sid and said, “Mistah Lee, you seems like a righteous guy. But Mistah Three-Toe here was the first one I met, and he had an honest look in his eye… So…

I say we all put our cash in one poke and let my man Pete here hold our money. Then we’ll go up an’ party at my hotel. Then I’ll know there won’t be no “Do Funny…”

“Now, hold on”, ‘Lee’ said, You are messin’ with my head, Country Boy. I just met you and this Three-Toed cat! Let’s at least stop off, have a taste and get acquainted.” And Pete said, “Well, I’ll drink to that!”

Then Cardboard spoke in his country drawl, “Boys, don’t ya’ll worry ’bout a thang.” My ol’ Pappy lent me his theft-proof money sling.” He pulled it out from under his shirt – and undid it’s little string.

Pete’s eyes popped once more as he spotted the bucks, and “Brother Lee’s” jaw dropped, right on cue, as he emptied his wallet into Country Boy’s sack… Then  Pete added his bankroll too.

“Now, listen here, Three-Toe,” Country Said, “You’se now in charge of the cash fo’ all three; so thats why it’s very important to hold dis hyeah money-pouch exactly like me.”

“Tuck it real tight, right under your arm.” Country, said, and put it in to demonstrate, but what he brought back out to hand over to Pete was only a Con victims just fate.

At that point both Sty and Card knew how they’d spend the balance of their day: Working hard to keep from laughing up their sleeves, watching Pete scheme to get away.

Now that Three-Toed Pete had ripped off these two chumps, all he needed was to give them both the slip. “Not only am I King of the Poker-playing thing, on the streets, I’m as smart as a whip!”

Yes, Three-Toe was smart, but this time his greedy heart would cause him to loose all his cash. And when he gets home to tote up his winnings, all he’ll find is a pouch full of trash.

As for Styrofoam Sid and the Cardboard Kid, they’ll count their take and do what they do. So, be careful if you’re ever on Stone City’s streets – their next Vic just might be you!
