This is a song about two lonely people finding each other.I wrote this song in 1972, three months after I turned 18 years old.
We were strangers in the rain,
Just two hearts passing in the night,
Two lonely hearts full of pain,
Needing someone to hold tight.
We were two people done wrong,
Two lonely people who didn’t know what to do,
But we knew we must carry on,
With these hearts that were left broken and blue.
We were strangers in the rain,
Sailing love’s stormy sea,
Searching for loving arms to take away the pain,
And to chase away the misery
When my eyes found you,
That’s when I knew,
This broken heart would mend,
Because you said our love wouldn’t end.
We were strangers in the rain,
Two ships passing in the night,
That love had yet to claim,
On their journey into the morning light,
Fade: We were strangers in the rain.
