Strengthen What Remains

By:  Rhonda Thompson

We often focus on the past and the things that didn’t last.

The things that left us bruised and discouraged,

What we fail to realize is, that these are the very things

That set us up for many blessings.

What we fail to realize is, that through the adversity,

We become pliable and can be molded for something better.

What we fail to realize is, that this is the opportunity to move beyond comfort zones,

Comfort zones that restrict our creativity; our ability to live authentically.  Looking back on the pain, keeps us from seeing our potential in the future.

We fail to remember, to strengthen what remains.

Learning to embrace and cultivate an attitude of gratitude,

May seem ridiculous to think this way, when you’re in deep pain from emotional injury,

Yet we cannot see the benefit right away, it is the gateway to pure joy.

Humility is to be valued and serves as a platform for a character of brilliance,

Keeps us learning without becoming haughty after receiving knowledge,

It is the very thing, in which true inner power will emerge.

To rebuild, to nurture, to live again,

To rise above the rubble of challenges or obstacles,

Is the result of seeing and taking hold of the importance of strengthening what remains.

We only wear masks, when we fail to understand,

The hardships or life that we all suffer are designed to unmask us,

To get to the “core” gem of “who” we truly are.

No material thing, position or person can ever replace this need to be safe.

We hold on to the “familiar” as security, keeping us in a stagnant place.

Learning that true “security” is in God alone, nothing else.

When faith replaces fear, power begins to happen.

An anchor on the inside is in place and cannot be removed.

No thing, person or circumstance can take it away, unless it is relinquished.

It’s up to you to make the decision to strengthen what remains.
