About a male customer in a flower shop. He insists on getting a bouquet made-up entirely of red roses, the traditional symbol of love. But, they are sold-out. Through the talking flowers: his imagination: he gets to see that tradition will stand in the way of self expression, and spontaneity if you allow it to do so. Sometimes you’ll have to break tradition for the sake of creativity. But tradition is very strong, so he may return to it; for he says : to tradition, you are out for today.

A alluring
sweet smelling
bunch of flowers
pink geraniums
purple anthuriums
white lilies
very frilly
daffodils in yellow
fresh from the meadow
pansies blue
orchids in hue

‘But red roses are out
heaven knows what’s that about.’

“Close-minded you are by tradition and dreams”
said the flowers in cream.

‘But red roses are the true love
and not you foxglove!’

“That’s very neat
and you’re so sweet
but all say
when nothing else may
love you so much
want your heart to be touched
the thought that counts
while dreams mount
popularity is vanity
life’s packed with variety
lighten-up
get the buttercups”.

‘Tradition I say
you’re out for today.’

I love this! The photo is so beautiful. A red rose never looked so spectacular! I think that the irony of these red rose traditions, is that MANY women get especially excited when a mixture of beauty, a creation, comes their way. Like the difference perhaps, between writing feelings in a greeting card or just letting the card do the talking and signing it.

    Perfect for Valentine’s Day!

A really lovely poem. I too think the photo is beautiful. I like roses but I would never choose them. Give me carnations any day.
