I left a part of me behind…

I left a part of me behind

Rushing and racing to leave this place

Couldn’t get out fast enough

The pony was at my door

My mind was telling me to run like the wind

Don’t stop, don’t look back, don’t feel, just run

Couldn’t see the face on my watch

I was moving too fast

No grass growing under these feet

Thought sugar plum alley was too old

The only thing being older than

My sugar plum alley was dirt and water

I am tired of this cold hard dirt under my feet

I have this need to feel the grass under my feet again

Slowing down now, looking ahead

All I can see is the big world is after me

There’s a sign up ahead, reading, cross at your own risk

Turning around slowly, heading back to my sugar plum alley

I’ve been in that alley. Love the title for this piece, Shirley. Like how this was constructed. Enjoyable read.
