Oftentimes, a relationship falls into a rut. We get bored and want a change, but are so comfortable in our routine that we can’t or won’t come out of it. Can we stop dwelling on what could have been and move forward from where we really are?

Suspended in time

The tick-tock of the clock

Inexplicably stopped

At midnight when the blackest of curtains falls

All is blocked from my view

Will the sun ever rise?

A new day to dawn and life to proceed

From this point forward

Still holding out for coulda, woulda, shoulda

How will we change anything?

If we refuse to face facts, let go of “if only”

And use reality as our new starting point

Bound by tradition and a meaningless vow

Eyes veiled, hands tied, held

Hostage by convenience

The comfort of what has always been

Suspended in time

The tick-tock of the clock

Inexplicably stopped

At midnight

This is so true. When a relationship or anything falls into decay, it loses itself and its appeal and strength. A mere shadow of what it was. I like the tick tock of the clock analogy. Good poem!

I also like the creativity in this poem. The clock analogy is awesome. Some people remain stuck in relationships because they feel comfortable and are scared of going out of their comfort zone.

You amaze me madam engineer. You really are a poet, keep it up.

Some people are just too blind, too pampered to see what a change could really do to their lives…

Touched a very sensitive chord in me with this article… I know how this feels and how you try to hold on to something that no longer exists…. The hardest step is the first step and time just stops when you have to make that decision. Thank you for writing this, its beautifully described… :-)

You are so right. It is too easy to stick to your boring every day routine, and as you get older it is even harder to break out of it. Feelings beautifully described in this piece.
