Suzie, is around in her neighbourhod most of the time collecting the latest news. When household chores keep her at home, her window is only solace. One day, while spending hours beside the window, she had forgotten about the guests invited for lunch.

In most neighbourhood of yesteryears

Lurked a ‘Peeping Tom,’

But Suzie is different, as she is

A fulltime busy mom.

Suzie, yes, you know her

The lady who loves to chat,

About every Tom Harry and Dick

Every this and that.

What’s happening what’s not happening

And what’s going on there,

Her eyes are on everyone

Who cares and does not care.

As usual, she sat by her window

To peer at her neighbour’s house,

Some squabble sure was underway

Between Sheila and her spouse.

She waited and she waited

She waited for a glimpse,

Louder got the noise Oh dear!

A bitter thrash of whims.

The household chores could wait right then

Bothersome! as they could be,

An exchange of heat is welcome

To break the monotony.

Some yelling she did hear and

Suzie gave a sigh,

To find the reason for all this

Suzie longed to try.

Then wrath gave way to warmth

Anger turned to laughter,

Blaring on the TV a skit was on

‘Happily Ever After.’

But Suzie had forgotten

She’d have guests for lunch that day,

When there rang the telephone

They were some minutes away.

While rice that cooked in the kitchen

Got flattened into roast,

And milk that simmered for pudding

Was parched into toast!

What a great poem! It had such an easy flow. I think we all know someone like Suzie. People watching can be very entertaining.

It’s not just that we have the time to watch, but that we take it… I say let the milk burn, we’ve more important things than lunching on time.

Great Poem – I really enjoyed reading this. So nicely written I found myself really being taken away with imagining a scene as you describe in the poem.

i wanted to go back to the begginning of your writing career and add my comments to your first publication on triond. this is a lovely poem. i am sure that there is a suzie within all of us and so we can relate so well to her personality. :)
