A poem about lost innocence, rage, and what’s left.
What happens when childhood has been violated
Where does that lost innocence go
What does take purity’s place
Do you really have the heart to know
Rage, confusion, shame, and fear fill the void
Where goodness and trust once occupied
Love is transmuted into indifference
The gentle playful soul is tainted by a heartless blackness
When an encounter occurs
With this fallen little angel
The situation usually is explosive and traumatic
Emotions tend to run high and extremely chaotic
The cancer keeps eating away
Hour after hour, day after day
It is too much to handle or endure
The child is scarred and jaded
At such a tender young age
The marrow that once was life
Has been poisoned and now decays
There is not much to look forward to
Save the constant broken promises
Falling to the bottom of your wishing well
