Walking therapy.
I love to take long walks this time of year
It is true that I love to walk period
Walking clears the mind and heals the soul
The longer I walk the warmer I become
and the wind against my face has a metamorphosing
effect
I am sure in Wisconsin this wouldn’t work
but
Here in California it works exceedingly well
With every step I take something magical happens
I think in Zen like terms and before you know it
Where ever I am heading to seems less important
I make a point of saying hello to everyone I pass
Whether they realize I am passing them by or not
I smile and I wave without changing my gate or pace
Sometimes I employ a soundtrack
Sure to make the song playing have a rhythm that matches
my footsteps
I miss West Los Angeles in that most of my stomping grounds were
relatively flat and easily traversed
I was known to walk 8-12 miles without thinking about it
Here in O.C., there are many hills and cul-de-sacs
Designed to give the impression of exclusivity
Folks around here see walking as a symbol of poverty
Instead of personal freedom and choice
Sad really
Still I enjoy my walks and will continue to do so until
my legs no longer cooperate
