A Raymond Chandleresque story in poetry of a sex obsessed private detective who is ratted out by those that he dedicates his lower regions to.

Ahh the smell of the city

The city it holds so much charm,

Yet it could eat a man up

Tear off his arms and show no pity

Kinda like my ex wife, got real shitty

Caught me with some cheap lookin’ broad,

Ya know blonde hair big titties,

Divorced me, told the judge everything was hers

Hey what can I say I wasn’t home much and I bought the bitch furs,

Sometimes, sometimes a man’s gotta play away.

But back to the point

I’d been working on this case involving some two bit

Liquor and craps joint down on 221st street,

Name one thing that didn’t go down in that place,

Let’s just say it was coppin’ some real heat.

My name, my name is Bobbie…

Bobbie Wordonthestreet,

I’m a private detective and I’m fast on my feet,

I got my ear to the ground,

I’ve been around,

I know how to survive,

And how to spot a wise guy from like a hundred paces

And I got plenty a aces up my sleeve,

Hang on give me a second I gotta breath.

Anyway work had been kinda slow,

I finished my last ‘some guy cheatin’ on his wife case’ some weeks ago

My rent was due, and to be honest, I was getting’ to the point,

Of playing with myself for somethin’ to do,

So anyways, in walks this dame…

Saying she wanted to locate some hustler who hustled her,

Gave me a description, a location and a name.

Gee this broad had legs as long as the Grand Canyon…

And always havin’ been a sight seeing man…

I gots to lookin’…so I took the bookin’

Three hundred and fifty dollars, to collar the schmuck,

Who took her money,

And I gotta say, the way this honey looked,

I would done the case anyway,

Her kinda class, was beyond cash,

I think you know what I’m sayin’

I woulda done it for a dime if this lady was payin’

That was Thursday,

Two days later…it was Saturday.

It was the night-time,

It was the city,

It was hot,

My intuition and a few lousy leads was all I got,

That and some rash, I’d paid for in cash,
