Despite the fact that the eyes are often chosen for expressing sexual desire (as proven by the phrase: lustful eyes), I have opted to use both the sense of touch and the sense of taste in my tanka to insinuate the feeling of lust. In addition, this fourth poem of the Tanka (Emotions) Series also aims to illustrate the power of the mind to transform a complex emotion into something else (irregardless of its nature) that is quite perceivable.
Tanka (Emotions): Lust was one poem that I found most challenging to finish as: (a) The topic was something that I’m not very much acquainted to (i.e. It is a topic that I rarely choose to write about) and (b) The fixed syllabication pattern of the tanka was very limiting and therefore caused me to experience difficulty in correctly imparting my intentions, choosing the right words and constructing a proper sort-of-a-sentence structure. I would like to thank a couple of friends who criticized a few drafts I have made prior to this one.
Slowly, I tear off
your skin and indulge into
your juicy flesh. I,
a god; you, my ambrosia—
least at the depths of my mind.
