About a family of pheasants.
Under a deep, blue sky
A pheasant family meets in the woods
They feel the crisp, mountain air
As it creeps down into the valley
In the tall grasses they hide
From hunter’s red hat
And rifle bullets
Trees line the river
That flows near their meeting ground
Wild mountain berries and willows
Lilly of the Valley
Clumps of yellow and white dandelions
Brush their sagging, brown-spotted tail feathers
Under autumn sky
Poor old rooster
He turns his head and hears
He hides
Between two large willows
While the females wander
Into some ferns and wait
Shhh! Still another cock awaits his doom!
