Leaves had fallen, trees were bare
October skies were grey.

A walk along a country road

counting loved ones that I’ve lost

A path that leads to nowhere

with no other roads to cross

~

Leaves had fallen, trees were bare

October skies were grey

But even rain couldn’t fall

on this dark and gloomy day

~

I walked through storms without a raindrop

with a dry and thirsty soul

watching numbers from my circle drop

feeling pain that seemed to grow

~

I came upon a saddened rainbow

who never got to shine

It too had gone through storms

and waited for its time

~

Never did the rain fall

though thunders roared so fierce

Winds that cut you like a knife

leaving a heart that’s pierced

~

I couldn’t take another moment

I could not take the pain

I drank the tears of the rainbow

pretending they were rain
