A poem about the tearful regrets of a drunk driver.
She staggered helplessly
From her wrecked smoky automobile
Gazing clueless at shocked by-standers
Watching, as the police and paramedics
Glided down the slope in rescue of
A young mother and her two little boys
People moved to tears at the sudden and tragic loss of lives
No sense in crying a river when the harm is done
Save the tears of wine by better judgment and safety rules
Ambulance sirens, brake lights, and back-ups
Stopped the flow of traffic of stressed out workers
Heading home from a hard day’s work
“Here we go again, Daisy,” she mumbled under her drunken breath
“What’s my offense Officer,” mimicking a military type salute
“D.U.I.!” the officer announced, to the collaborating nod of everyone
“Dead upon impact? What a shame.”
“No Ma’am. Driving under the influence”
What a senseless waste of lives!
