Telephone a poem by Jennifer Jo Fay. Poems for the soul. A poem about the age old game that ends up being something very different in the end.

Telephone

Have you heard of a long ago game?

Telephone?

It’s been passed down for centuries.

Many people can play it,

or sometimes just two or three players.

It usually starts off like this.

“Did you know that Sally said her

husband has had an affair

and that Sally caught them in bed together.”

Rumor spreads.

“Did you hear that Sally has had

an affair on her husband?  Her sister

caught her and her lover kissing

in the park.”

Spreads like wild fire.

“Did you hear that Sally’s brother

has killed Sally’s friend for having an

affair with Sally’s cousin?”

And on and on and on.

And it suddenly becomes

so far away

from the truth.
