Poem:

A dog’s love is most manifest:

It seeks not power to control,

Passing every acid test,

Playing is own time-honored role –

So, tell me not it has no soul.

Misfortune would take not its zest,

Nor even narrow down its goal

To be a faithful friend at best,

Though misery might take its toll;

So, tell me not it has no soul.

A friendship between man and man

Might never reach its wholesome goal,

But is it possible to ban

A dog from playing its friendly role?

So, tell me not it has no soul.
