Songs in the 1800’s.

War song about –peace wrote by Walter Kettering, a New England-er.  It is one of those songs representing the spontaneous out pouring of a full heart.   The song was completed in one evening  in 1863,  When the whole nation was war–weary and longing  for peace song. It promptly struck a responsive chord with soldiers and public, for its plaintiff melody seemed to express a sentiment that no other song had caught.
