It has been a year since my ex left the country, and I’m doing really well. Inspired by the poem, “To Write Love on Her Arms,” by Jamie Tworkowski.

As I sit and drink this dry red wine,
Not one tear falls from my eye.
Far cry from this time last year,
When you leaving, was my biggest fear.
Our last kiss at that security gate,
Knowing seeing you again was not our fate.
I miss you now only as a friend,
And I think how good it is that it came to an end.
You left me,
Took the best of me.
I lied because of loving you.
Bleed because of leaving you.
I temporarily lost control,
But now I am fine, I am whole.
My true friends “wrote love” on my arms,
They make me feel loved, the kind that warms.
I guess what I am trying to say,
Is thank you for leaving that day.
I made me stronger,
Made me a fighter.
I bleed, I cried,
Drank too much wine.
But now I’ve found me again,
The girl who always loved to grin.
I think I’ve found the real me
Who I am, and what I want to be.
So, I hope you’re doing fine my friend,
Because I know, I certainly am.
Thank you for not staying.
