A ringtone on the beach can really shatter the peace.

It is really quite idyllic

Sitting on my Italian beach,

Dozing with the warm blue sea

Lapping close within my reach.

I hear the children playing,

Chasing frisbees, having fun,

Burying dads up to their necks

In piles of sand beneath the sun.

My brother lies there snoring,

Half read papers on his knee,

Dreaming of plates of pasta

And the wine which flows so free.

A very annoying ring tone

Wakes us from our drowsy state.

Mobile phones on a peaceful beach

Are something we both really hate.

A large woman in a thong appears

I know I sound unkind,

But I wonder if she knows

What she looks like from behind.

And then we’re all subjected to

To a loud and raucous chat,

And any peace we were enjoying

Well she’s brought an end to that.

There’s only one thing for it,

A delicious treat we both deserve.

A wonderful Magnum icecream

Both our sanity will preserve.

Yeah, you are right! That woman should really think about the people around her. Actually, no one wants to hear annoying cell phone ringtone and loud chat while trying to catch some relax on the beach! :) Hey, I like Magnum ice cream too! :D

LOL. You never cease to charm with your verses. And yes, cell phones are ubiquitous and annoying.

  • CHAN LEE PENG on Jul 29, 2011

Very interesting poem, but what’s the woman looking at?

  • LadyElena on Jul 29, 2011

Oh, I enjoyed reading this poem. Lovely photos too. Bikinis are not what they used to be. The lady in the photo is wearing a micro bikini. lol

  • Saurav Banerjee on Jul 29, 2011

Mobile phones are no doubt a wonderful invention. But I completely agree with you on the point of how distracting they can become. Very well expressed thought as usual Christine.

  • Starpisces on Jul 29, 2011

  • Jimmy Shilaho on Jul 29, 2011

A very good piece, as for the woman, I think she is hot from behind and I wonder what she looks like in front, just kidding.

  • Ruby Hawk on Jul 29, 2011

Loved it – this one was really cute! That picture of the “thong” bikini looks more like dental floss.

Interesting poem. Sorry that you experienced noise pollution. It’s indeed disturbing the peace. I will imagine throwing that phone into sea as a punishment.

  • vijayanths on Jul 29, 2011

  • PR Mace on Jul 30, 2011

Your verses expressed your feeling well. You know there are so many times I hate cellphones.

  • LoveDoctor on Jul 30, 2011

That was a very good rhyme, the line with the woman wearing the red thong. A cell phone ringing at the beach or someone talking is definitely disruptive. I’m really looking forward to visiting Europe someday.

  • beingwell on Jul 30, 2011

    Nice one, my dear.

  • Milton H Peebles III on Jul 30, 2011

    Funny

  • PruandMe on Jul 30, 2011

Ok a ringing cell, even my own, is always annoying. But conversations on the beach, as well as children running, kicking up the sand, laughing, crying all belong there.

That said, I love the poem, the imagery is excellent even without the photos.

  • AngelaFaith on Jul 30, 2011

So funny ! Darn the things or did I mean thongs LOL Sooo very good! Thanks for the hearty laughter!

  • Gail Cavanaugh on Jul 30, 2011

You painted quite a picture with words. I did not know they allow those types of bathing suits on the beaches.

I wish people could put down their cell phones at least part of the time. They are aggravating.

  • Dennis N OBrien on Aug 1, 2011

Well I’ve seen a lot worse than that rear view of the thong but we won’t, as the Americans say: “go there”.

  • CA Johnson on Aug 1, 2011

This is great. I don’t like when people are constantly talking loud on their cell phones. It is very annoying and rude. Thanks for sharing.

  • revivor on Aug 2, 2011

I agree, beaches should be phone free zones!!

  • Freethinking on Aug 2, 2011

Everyone is self important and a doctor now Christine. Remember those days of yore when only attorneys or doctors had pagers? Oh, how I wish for those days. My God, people can\\\\\\\’t even go to the grocery store without talking in the dairy, meat, bread and vegetable aisles The world is now full of doctors and attorneys…at least in the minds of the intruders into our inner peace. :) .

  • d1dezire on Aug 2, 2011
