A reaction to acts of terrorism.
Again, suicide bombers strike
In peaceful markets, leaving
Dead grandmothers and school children,
While khaki-clad soldiers
Demolish houses, leaving peasants
Without shelter.
Mad men threaten to unleash
The most horrific dogs of war
Unless their unreasonable
Demands are met.
In the executive suites across the land
Men and woman already rich
Rape our bank accounts
In order to become richer still,
And express only regret
That they are caught in the act.
Some people drive around in
Fancy cars, with flashing jewels
And clothes with designer labels,
While kids with distended bellies
Cry at their mothers’ shrunken breasts.
Is this the end of a world of reason,
Or, are we living in a nightmare
From which it is impossible to wake?
Is God real, or am I just dreaming?
