Poetry about what science and religion can and cannot tell us.

I don’t know, and you don’t either;
   You can only guess –
Make up myths and gods explaining
   Why we’re in this mess.

I don’t know, and you don’t either,
   Yet you claim you do.
Science hasn’t learned the answers;
   Faith has not a clue.

I don’t know, and you don’t either;
   Working theories shift –
Battle lines are drawn on paper,
   Stretching wide the rift.

I don’t know, and you don’t either,
   Though you still insist –
Searching for some solid substance
   Hidden in the mist.

I don’t know and you don’t either;
   Scream and waste your breath.
All we really know for certain
   Is the touch of death.

    Powerful, well-written poem. Religions exist primarily because we fear death.

    This was very well written and I like the idea of being lost and not knowing what to believe in. But I’ve got to say I don’t agree with WriteEditSeek on religion. She says this like she knows for sure but there’s no way we can.
