This is a poem about a beast told by himself.
It is based on the Aunia Kahn painting “We soon forget”.

The Beast

You are mine I won you and own you fairly,

The love you felt, I felt to and I won’t let it go

An empty carcass is where my soul resides

I am nothing without you and therefore I will not release you

When we met I saw the beauty in your soul,

When you looked back I could never let it go.

I am not sorry for causing you pain

You are mine and mine you shall remain.

No one else will ever love you like I have,

No one else will ever have you like I have.

No one else but I

You are mine until you die.

The beauty in your soul is the only glimpse of heaven

I will ever know.

The rage you see is the devil I will spend eternity with

After you go.

I will not release you I will not share,

You are my possession the only of which I care.

You cannot break away

Not tomorrow or today

Never again will you stray

Look at me I am your way.

Where are you going you cannot leave?

Where are you going what about me?

You are leaving me

Me the one who loved you, me!

I will not let you go

I can’t let you go

You must leave yourself,

For I am a beast.

Thank you I wrote it for a domestic violence poetry contest based on art by Aunia Kahn. I lost a cousin last month to a supposed suicide but her boyfriend was the only witness. This is where the energy comes from in this poem. When my cousin died he wouldn’t even let her mother have her cat. 15 minutes before her suicide she had made plans over the phone for her mother to pick her up because she was leaving the boyfriend.

Thanks for including the link to the art piece and the comment regarding your cousin. Provides the proper perspective to your ‘beast’. Very well written.

You were spot on. The perfect title for a perfect portray of a precious life unfinished. It was very well written I knew it had to be a dark side and after the first line I knew what it was about, hence making the reading intense.

I can relate to this as I was a victim for many years of domestic violence. Very well written piece.

This poem as an almost urgent, anxious feel to me. I like it.

My fav: “No one else but I

You are mine until you die.”

I think that after ” I will not let you go,” it would sound better as, “I cannot let you go.”

    Just my 2 cents.

I spin something similar to this poem when I’m serious about someone..no wonder I can’t keep ‘em..hehehehe..liked this Brad.

Disregard that last comment Brad..now that I know the real meaning behind this poem..I was in a relationship with a man who used both physical and psychological means to dominate me. I would say that a fair percentage of women around the world have experienced these forms of violence from a previous partner. This poem truly reflects the mindset of a man who abuses his partner and the main issues of power and control. Violence increases at the time of separation..your ex-partner loses control over you because you are making your own choices..which means the danger increases..’the beauty in your soul is the only glimpse of heaven’..she woke up one day and realised..a little too late..that she had the right to live in a place that was safe and free from fear..the day she tried to leave…she paid the ultimate price..with her life..very poignant Brad.

The most powerful means of control is definately through the mind. Someone can convince you that you are part of them and that without them ….you are nothing. Interesting peice and I think it describes the inner conversation between the beast and the manipulated.

Sometimes a look can be the equivalent of a chain wrapped tightly around your waist binding you to your captor.

    Nice work

Spot on, Brad. Scary as hell.

Thanks Brad. This does sounds alot like him. And no, I do not find it offensive at all. These stories need to be told, and some people are truely beastly. Loved it!
