This is a poem about the beauty and importance of wood.
Trees are one of the most beautiful natural organisms the Earth does possess,
However, second by second, minute by minute, their amount is getting less,
With the facilitate of deforestation the trees are sadly fading away,
Let’s get as one body and help nurture our fellow wooden giants; the trees we must not slay,
Of course wood is essential, but if we sacrifice one tree we should plant three more,
Then they shall prosper and we shall be helping nature and of growth widening the gap in the door.
The tree in its cloak of bark, stands full of might and power, looks down below and realises that his massive body, bark and leaves,
Dominates the whole forest, and feels great joy, when the whistles round him telling him that there is life in his old body yet, and then he sees,
Men carrying chainsaws and it sadly dawns on him that his fate may come one day soon, but clings on with hope,
And wishes with optimism of a great king that with the added pressure the other trees will still cope,
Although it is not in the trees favour, wood makes very fine furniture,
Therefore making it the perfect bait for money and money it does lure.
Wood is useful because it shaped the shipping industry of the nineteenth century,
Ships fashioned from wood include the Cutty Sark and the graceful HMS Victory,
On the less business-like end wood also makes many happy boys,
When it is planed down, varnished and turned into toys,
Any off-cuts from the model are not wasted though because they are put into many a stove and fire where the flames shall leap,
This makes a long cold winter cosy and cheerful, boys may walk past shivering and into a joyful room they may peep.
