Why is it that when I want to lose weight for a holiday I seem to need the occasional binge?

When the day is passing slowly

And you’re feeling quite subdued,

A sudden craving grabs you

For some really tasty food.

You know that it’s quite naughty

But your taste buds drive you on

To take that piece of fresh cream cake

And eat it till it’s gone.

And now you’ve started binging

You look around and spot

Those cookies in the biscuit jar

And so you eat the lot.

And in the cupboard up above,

Hidden, or so you thought,

Is that really yummy chocolate bar

Which you should not have bought.

Now you’re lying on the sofa

And you’re stuffed up to the brim,

Feeling rather sick and guilty

And no longer very trim.

All that dieting for your holiday

Has been to no avail,

For when you lie out on the beach

You’ll feel just like a whale.

You have to be careful lying on the beach like a stranded whale these days. A group of busy bodies will come along and try to put you back in the ocean.

  • Saurav Banerjee on Aug 9, 2011

What can I say, just yet another great post once again.

  • Phoenix Montoya on Aug 9, 2011

I usually forget about the diet. I can’t seem to resist good food he he. Wonderful poem, Christine.

  • lapasan on Aug 9, 2011

Sometimes there are cravings that are hard to control especially food. Excessive consumption of sweet foods is not healthy, but at least they are enjoyable to eat.

  • profreelancer on Aug 9, 2011

    oh its really awesome………

Those are very tempting, but we need to control our appetite sometimes.

    LOL Great one

  • Francois Hagnere on Aug 9, 2011

Aren’t we all the same? Who can resist such a tempting cake? You made me laugh, Christine, and I must confess I badly need it right now. Thank you my dear friend!

  • J M Lennox on Aug 9, 2011

Half that guilt feeling is probably because sweet foods raise our sugar levels above normal which makes us ”feel even better” but that level then plummets below the normal level later because of it. So, give your body some of the blame perhaps (and not just lack of self-control) – lol. Great poem Christine. :-)

hehehe, once in a while, must spoil yourself.. another excellent poem, enjoyed reading it, well done, Christine.

  • No Share on Aug 9, 2011

hahaha.. the trick to losing weight is to be consistent and not to starve oneself. Maybe you put too much restrictions on yourself, thats why you would end up “binge”- ing in effect

  • Atanacio on Aug 9, 2011

I don’t care what you write about.. I just love reading your entries.. I think you’re becoming one of my favorites.. I just get entertained.. hope you don’t change your writing style.. Frank

  • Cynthia Bartlett on Aug 9, 2011

cute, in my case I feel like a baby hippo.I have found that if I do not completely deny myself the foods I like, I am less likely to binge eat when I come near them. Just saw an interesting video regarding eating the wrong, this, that and the other thing. I have had success in the past, but I have plateaued so need to rethink what I eat and when. Also small meals through out the day is supposed to be good for us also…don’t know, but I do only eat when I am hungry now instead of 6, noon, 6. And the body needing water will also make one have the feeling of hunger.
    thanks for sharing.

Christine, I agree with every word. You work so hard to take weight off and then that craving hits that cannot be resisted. Well, you can always hop right back on the wagon.

  • Tulan on Aug 9, 2011

Christine, honey, it’s okay to do it once a month. I give you permission.

  • Socorro Lawas on Aug 9, 2011

Hahahaha! I love your humor. I love poetry; in fact, my latest posts are analyses of the poetry of Lord Byron and Shelley and my own compositions. Poetry allows both of us to be on the same page.

I loved this true to life poem. There have been some evenings when I have forced myself to go to bed simply so I won’t eat anymore. I am so weak when it comes to the sweets.
