A ballad telling of the love of two unlikely birds of prey.
Cloudless sky
Gentle morning breeze
And all of the colors around me
But it’s the sky that catches my eye
For in that placid blue plain
Flies a Red-tailed Hawk
Gentle and powerful
Proud but not loud
Air rushes over the bird’s body ruffling its feathers
Claws hang under the bird, ready to strike
Unforgiving eyes stare nobly forward
And the red tail disguises the trail
The wide wingspan provides easy lift
And the sleek Bullet soars forward
The bird calls out:
“Kree-eee-ar.” And the sound travels far
An answer in the distance
A female replies to the call
She Darts from a tree
To meet her new friend with a love till the end
The Male Soars upwards and drops down straight
And the last second stops the descent and begins his flight back up
Circle after circle
The male does his best, to impress the female, better than the rest
The grasp talons
And lock each other’s gazes
And together they spiral to the ground,
With an undying love, found from above
